Furcal areas

How to clean furcal areas?

In the molar areas, spaces between teeth are called furcations.

When there is periodontal disease involvement, furcal areas may become exposed and require more cleaning with interproximal brushes. These are areas in which the accumulation of biofilm is more likely due to their open furcation blind sac morphology.

Also, if the furcation opens across the entire tooth in the form of a tunnel, the only way to properly clean it is by using interproximal brushes.
